Surely it is insane for a doctor to prescribe a strong opiate like morphine before they prescribe cannabis? This YouTube video makes me think that doctors need to be completely re-educated regarding cannabis – because clearly they do not know enough about this particular medicine. Doctors have never been taught about the endocannabinoid system, at least not accurately and in sufficient detail – yet this is a system utterly vital to good health. How can a doctor properly and professionally treat a patient without understanding the endocannabinoid system? They can’t.
Cannabis should be the first thing that the doctor prescribes to patients in situations like this; before the pain killers that could kill them or turn them into addicts, before the morphine that will almost certainly turn them into a zombie. Doctors must be taught about the benefit of each particular cannabinoid; of sativa and indica; of THC, THCA and CBD. They need to know which strain or specific cannabinoid is best for epilepsy. For MS. For chronic pain. Doctors must truly understand this stuff – and as long as they remain ignorant they will continue to live in the stone age of medicine, and continue to fail their patients.
Bottom line: doctors… it’s time to go back to school.
